Carving bench

People have asked me about my carving bench. Many years ago I took a carving seminar and I used a similar bench and liked it a lot and got out my tape measure and took some measurements and when I got home drew up some plans. The tail-vice screw, clamps the table in place. The table can move up and down a total of 38 inches, but I usually only move it around15 inches. Sometimes it is difficult to raise it due to the weight. I am just to lazy to take the carving and clamps off.  The bench is made of maple. The base top has 13 pieces of wood sandwiched together by four 1/2 inch threaded rods with nuts and washers at each end. The bench I copied had a 4 foot by 4 foot base, but my work shop in my basement was too small for such a large base so I made it 2-1/2 feet by 3 feet.

REtired and want to stay busy. Wood carving has been a hobby of mine for many years.
Now I have the time but moved to a small apartment with a small one car garage, no basement.
I am intrigued by your bench. However have sold or gave away all my power and hand tools except for my carving knives.
I can not build the bench, so I am looking for a bench like yours already made.
Can you help me or refer me to someone that can?
I live in the Port Huron, Michigan area (Fort Gratiot Township)

Sorry I built it many years ago and do not have plans and i don’t know anyone who would make you one. It cost me a lot of money in wood alone. If you are a casual carver and just do it as a hobby go to a Lee Valley catalog and get a device to hold you carving on a bench. Or go to a carving club near you and see if anyone has a home made holder for your wood.

I do not have plans. I built it many years ago from a bench that I saw when I took a carving seminar.
